At one time, several credit card companies implied in their advertisements that people who used a gold card to make purchases were treated better. Sales clerks were more attentive and other shoppers would supposedly be impressed with your ability to qualify for such a card. At one time this may have been the case, but not anymore.

Really, who cares if a sales clerk is impressed? By the time the clerk sees your credit card, your transaction is nearly complete. It would be nice if you were treated specially as soon as you entered the store, not as your ready to leave. No one walks into a store waving their charge card so the other shoppers and the sales clerks know that they need to treat this person with respect.

Just having a gold card is not special, many credit card issuers offer gold cards. A person can even get a gold charge card prepaid credit cards used to build credit back up. This will hardly command respect from sales clerks. If fact, it’s a ridiculous way to earn respect.

What people should really are about is whether or not the company that issued them their gold card treats them with respect. Ample rewards that are easy to earn, and equally as easy to use, without unnecessary restrictions shows respect.
